ABOUT US
OUR MISSION
The 13thGirl Foundation is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide girls in Baltimore City the opportunity to participate in sports while helping them develop a variety of life skills they will carry with them throughout their lives.
Our Story
Growing up as the daughter of a football coach and a humanitarian dedicated to equal opportunity, it was inevitable that my path would lead me to a role that combines both values and skills. Coaching, teaching, and working with young adults to help them achieve their goals and enrich their lives means everything to me. It’s a calling I wouldn’t trade for the world.
As a long-time lacrosse player and coach, I value the successes I’ve had on the field… but the skills I’ve learned off the field through my coaches, teammates and players have been just as important. It has always been my wish that all students have the opportunity to experience being part of a team. But, one day I realized that is not always the case. As I was driving through Baltimore, I noticed a boy with a lacrosse stick. It struck a chord with me… boys in Baltimore City are given many opportunities to participate in team sports after school. But, what about the girls? They don’t have nearly as many options. That is when the idea for the 13thGirl Foundation was formed.
I started the foundation to reach young women and provide them with opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach. As a teacher, I value education and academic performance, but I also see the many benefits students gain through extracurricular activities. Combining both can help students build self-esteem and gain lifelong lessons, preparing them for a successful future.
I hope the girls who participate will gain a sense of accomplishment—not from counting wins, but from being part of a team, working hard, building discipline, and developing leadership skills.
Thank you for visiting our website. I hope it gives you a better understanding of what we're all about. Together…we can make a meaningful difference.
Sincerely,
